If you are haven't read the first two parts of my health journey, click here to start at the beginning. Rough Start As I had mentioned at the end of my previous post on my health journey, my new protocol started October 10. As I have done elimination diets in the past I didn't really prep myself or my kitchen. Huge mistake. The first week I felt like I could not eat anything. Everything that I had been eating recently was or contained an ingredient that I was not allowed to eat. I felt like a failure already. It was then that I decided to take a different perspective. This was an opportunity to try new foods and recipes. I searched for recipes without the ingredients I wasn't allowed. I gathered about 8 recipes and decided to give that a start. Boy...

My health journey actually didn't start with my diagnosis of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). I didn't start to actually address it until 2013. For 10 years, I let it simmer. I knew someday I would probably have to deal with it. I honestly didn't know the damage I was doing to my health and my body by masking my symptoms with prescription medications. Me today diagnosis I was lying back on the table, my feet up in the stirrups, trying to think about anything else other than the doctor who was examining my pelvic area. I became distracted in that effort when I noticed him double and triple checking his palpation of my ovaries. He asked me "have you ever been told that you have cysts?" My reply was "Never." He recommended I come back in a few days to get...

There is a very delicate balance to hormones in the body. If any hormone becomes in excess or deficient, it will affect the other hormones in the body. Today, I am going to discuss excess of estrogen, also known as estrogen dominance. Excess of estrogen can happen in two ways. A person can either have more estrogen than normal. Or a person can have decreased levels of progesterone. Either way, the gap between these two hormones has increased, changing their ratio.   Functions of Estrogen Estrogen has many healthy effects on the body when at the optimal level. Estrogen is best known for preparing the uterus for pregnancy or menstrual cycle. Other functions of estrogen include body temperature regulation, memory function, protects heart from cholesterol, helps liver regulate cholesterol production, and increases bone density and strength. symptoms of estrogen dominance Estrogen Dominance Symptoms Estrogen dominance symptoms in women include weight gain especially around hips, waist and...

There are many factors involved with feeling tired. If you are overtired, Traditional Chinese Medicine is able to pinpoint the culprit, give some extra pep and help you kick those afternoon blues. In TCM, the idea of treatment is to find the root of the problem instead of simply treating the symptoms. In the case of fatigue, there are many possible root causes to feeling tired including: stress, depression, over exercising, lack of sleep, poor diet, poor absorption of nutrients and vitamin deficiency. Of course, these can overlap and one can exacerbate the other. Possible TCM Syndromes Spleen qi deficiency and dampness This mainly comes from poor digestion and malabsorption of nutrients from an insufficient diet. Associated symptoms are a pale complexion, gas and bloating, to name a few. Dampness is excessive mucus and a feeling of heaviness in the head and body usually seen in overweight individuals. Since food is not digested well,...

Today, July 7, is World Chocolate Day!!! How many of you have or know someone who gets chocolate cravings??? Did you know that craving chocolate could mean a magnesium deficiency??? Hypnotherapy is never something that I really ever thought about. That was until I met Thomas (aka The Mind Guy) at a networking event.  I've always known that I have some limiting beliefs that I needed to work through in order to accomplish my goals and dreams in life.  Especially since my dream is to live my own life and not what society states is the way to live.  I have had my first hypnotherapy session and was very intrigued at what was brought up. Things that I thought I had dealt with and moved on from. I'm excited to continue my hypnotherapy sessions and dive in deeper into my subconscious to release some of my blockages.  In talking with Thomas about hypnotherapy and the mind I thought about how beneficial it would be in hospital settings to help with anxiety, for the person who is always trying to lose weight but doesn't...
